TEQUILA BLANCO
Also known as Silver Tequila, Blanco is the unaged expression of Tequila distilled from the Blue Weber Agave and hailing from one of five western states in Mexico. Look for bottles that are labeled “100% Blue Agave.” Blanco Tequilas are perfect candidates for Margaritas.
TEQUILA JOVEN
Blanco bottles labeled “joven” typically contain a small amount of aged Tequila Blended with Unaged Tequila.
TEQUILA REPOSADO
Tequila Reposado is Tequila that is aged in American or European Oak Barrels for at least two months and up to a year. Reposado Tequils make for more dynamic, flavorful cocktails.
TEQUILA AÑEJO
Tequila Anejo is Tequila aged in American or European Oak Barrels for at least a year. Anejo Tequilas are best for sipping neat or as an alternative base spirit in recipes that call for brown spirits like whiskey.
EXTRA AÑEJO
Extra Anejo means the spirit must be aged for more than three years, typically in Oak Barrels. Most distillers use a variety of wood barrels to age Extra Anejo Tequila, but the most popular are American and French Oak.
MEZCAL
The name Mezcal comes from the Nahuatl (Aztec) Mexcalli which literally translates to ‘oven cooked agave’. Mezcal is a distilled alcoholic spirit made from any type of agave, or maguey, plant native to Mexico. This is one of the areas where it differs from tequila which can only be made from three types of blue agave.
